Earlier this year we got rather excited about the return of a true bass OG: Benga
In January Zane Lowe premiered his first original in over two years – Shut It Down. It marked an interesting development in style. Still raw and groove-focussed like his earlier work, but now galvanised with a gritty techno sheen, it neatly teased us for more Benga business…
Things went quiet for a while. Then Secret Garden Party dropped and Benga headed west to support Bassnectar at his legendary Red Rocks shows… Before going quiet again.
Then, late last week, a flurry of hyped Tweets ensued… As did a series of free tracks: A stompy, heads-down, angular robot funk-up called Future Funk and two titanium bootlegs of Kendrick Lamar’s Alright and Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk.
So far, so funky… But we reckon there’s going to be more. Yesterday he hyped fans for a new dubstep track… But only if his Tweet got 690 retweets. Unfortunately it didn’t. But he’s already said he’ll try it again today. Keep tabs on his Twitter and keep your finger on the RT button!
Here’s what he’s given us so far…
But And we reckon there’s going to be more.
