D&B Community Unites To Raise Money For Red Cross Australia

Philth, LoKo, Freshney, Creatures, Screamarts, Transforma and many more drum & bass artists have joined forces for Fighting Fires: a 20-track V/A D&B charity album. All proceeds will go to Red Cross Australia to relief for fire fighters and communities affected by the bush fire crisis.

“Red Cross provide psychological first aid, for those affected by events like severe bushfires, to fire fighters and the community,” explains UK-based Australian artist Missledz who spearheaded the project. “Their work is so important in assisting communities and rebuilding lives during and after traumatic events such as wildfires.”

Missledz, real name Mandie, put the request out for music a matter of weeks ago and was inundated the submissions and offers to help. Fighting Fires is the result – a remarkable album that features a vibrant range of international artists (many of whom exciting new-generation talent) that covers every style of D&B and, most importantly, raises money for those most affected by the bushfires that have, according to the BBC, killed at least 30 people, destroyed over 2,000 homes and burnt through 10 million hectares of land, which is an area almost the size of England.

“Donating to the Red Cross will directly assist fire fighters, their families and communities in healing and rebuilding following this devastating time,” explains Missledz. “Mental health is a big topic in the music scene and the psychological impact of a traumatic event such as that in Australia would be undoubtedly devastating. After seeing a friend recently post about the mental health effects on a family member who was a volunteer fire fighter, and the potential benefit mental health support would have had, it made us think about how to use the funds raised and the Red Cross seemed like a positive way to help those impacted.”

Fighting Fires is one of many positive actions being made in the drum & bass community lately: last week Critical Music announced they would be including food bank donation areas at their events while Aussie brothers Ekko & Sidetrack have so far raised over $500 for the New South Wales Rural Fire Service with their track Combat VIP (which you can support here)
