Free music has been a an integral part of electronic music for years and now Dim Mak has joined the party by transforming their well-established New Noise compilation series into a bi-weekly, free download model launching today.
Five years ago the New Noise idea was launched as an annual compilation series to showcase fresh new faces in the world of dance music. This transition into bi-weekly releases will further champion their forward-thinking discovery objective with two-week free releases.
“New Noise is really going to embody the risk-taking, eclectic ethos that Dim Mak was built upon,” says Lee Kurisu, Dim Mak President.
The first release will be Ghastly’s cool bass-laden underground house track Every Night. Exemplifying New Noise’s mission to bring innovative sounds to the forefront, it goes a little something like this:
“I am thoroughly stoked to be a part of New Noise with Dim Mak,” says Ghastly. “Launching the series with my track Every Night is an honor. It’s an exciting series people have been waiting for and Dim Mak has delivered.”
That’s always been the objective here, to get new talent out there to be discovered by eager listeners. This free download platform will assist in the potential development of many new careers.
Free music has always been a constant struggle between high power major labels and artists. Most artists just want their music out there to be heard and enjoyed by their fans. Take Kaskade and his public battle with SoundCloud; even though you wrote the song, that doesn’t mean you can give it to whomever you want for free. Artists create art to express themselves and to influence and inspire others, it’s hard to put a price tag on that kind of human expression.
“After the Ghastly record, the next releases on New Noise include a dancehall-infused jungle terror track from Jace Mek & BIGGS, a triumphant instrumental hip-hop record from Diamond Pistols, and this little Baile Funk-tinged track from newcomer BLITZ feat. Ryal on vocals,” states Lee. “We’re also prepping new material from Italian duo Retrohandz as well as local LA homies GITCHII.”
Ghastly – Every Night will be downloadable from 10am PST today.
Each New Noise release will be available as two-week free downloads / SoundCloud full streams, in addition to being available on iTunes, Beatport, Spotify, Amazon and Google Play.
