A DJ was shot dead on Monday night in India for not honouring a request…
The incident happened in the Uttar Pradesh region of the country in a village called Sidhauli during a party hosted by a local jeweler for his granddaughter’s birthday.
The DJ – a 30 year old man named Arun Kumar Valmiki – was reported to have been shot a close range in the chest by a man who is believed to be named Ashu (and also goes under the name Ishu) who the Indian press are describing as a youth.
Police have stated that Ashu had asked the DJ to play a popular Bollywood song entitled Amanche Pe Disco and that shots were fired at close range when Arun did not honour Ashu’s request. Ashu’s house, and various other locations, have been raided but he still remains at large.
A genuinely tragic tale from a country that’s currently enjoying an unparalleled development in electronic music. Like any shocking event in any country’s party culture, it’s an isolated incident that should not reflect on the country’s thriving scene. Many of our favourite DJs are touring India for the first time in recent years, and we hope this won’t put them off performing in one of the world’s most unique and special countries.
