Drum & Bass Awards 2018: The Results

We all know that bricks don’t roll. But this weekend Hazard had to as Andy C reclaimed the Best DJ award from him this weekend at the Drum & Bass Awards 2018. It was one of an impressive three trophies the Ram boss picked up on the night.

Andy wasn’t alone. The 12th annual Drum & Bass Awards ceremony, hosted in Wolverhampton Star Works, saw 23 trophies fly out plus three emotional lifetime tributes. Guv scooped up two prizes for Best Producer and Best Track for No More Games while both Serum and Turno both enjoyed heavy representation in various category top threes and picked up gold for Best Alternate Artist and Best Album respectively.

Other interesting prizes presented on the night by hosts awards-founder MC Magika, Manchester don Trigga and local rave OG DJ Pilgrim included Low Down Deep for best label (beating both Ram Records and Hospital), London Elektricity for best live act (beating Chase & Status and SaSaSaS) and Benny L for Breakthrough Producer.

Once again the event represented as much of the D&B spectrum as possible and lived up to its ravey reputation: As well as a grand total of four MC awards the line-up flexed from Andy C to Kenny Ken via Hype & Hazard, DJ Guv, Turno, Logan D, Shadow Demon Coalition, Friction, Majistrate and Total Recall.

The most touching moment on the night was an extended tribute to dearly departed scene figures Marcus Intalex, Dominator and Stormin MC. All represented by family or friends, Stormin’s wife brought the 2500 capacity house down with an en mass cry of Buss It.

“It was beautiful night,” explains Drum & Bass Awards founder and co-host MC Magika. “The tributes were very touching and the whole crowd paid respect. The whole event felt like a bit of a homecoming to be honest. We had vibe like we used to have back in the Custard Factory, we had a lot of the big guns playing and everyone seemed really happy. Obviously huge respect to all the winners and everyone who played but the biggest shout goes out to all the ravers who braved the weather and made it out. The show went on, people came from all over the place. Thanks to everyone who came to party with us and took part and voted.”

Here’s who they voted for in full. Winners in bold.
