Drum&BassArena Awards 2015: The Results

IMG_9321

The drum & bass loving public has spoken!

Last night our friends Drum&BassArena hosted their seventh annual Drum&BassArena Awards at Brixton Electric, London.

Hosted by Charlie T and Jenna G, with sick sonic accompaniments from UK DMC champ JFB, the unstoppable Riya and the legendary General Levy, the event saw hundreds of the scene’s top artists, insiders and fans gather and celebrate all things D and all things B.

With plush production and VIP table seating, the Drum&BassArena Awards are a far cry from the standard rave scenario where those in the scene might get a fleeting half hour to chat backstage. A unique event, it allows friends old and new to sit back, appreciate the rude health of the scene and have a bit of a naughty midweek party in the process… And things got very naughty when Serum & Bladerunner took care of the after-show sounds for the final two hours!

There were some interesting results this year: Noisia stole the show with three awards, including one for Best Live Act… Even though they don’t actually perform live!

Mampi Swift appeared genuinely bowled over with his induction to the Hall Of Fame and Andy C’s speech for his Best DJ Award (which he’s won every year) had everyone chuckling as he reminisced over a young Mampi way back in 91. Hospital also enjoyed a successful night winning both Best Club Night and Best Label. And everyone took a sober moment to remember and celebrate Diane Charlemagne who was also inducted into the Hall Of Fame.

A genuinely exceptional and unique night; we’re pretty sure a lot of the drum & bass community are suffering some sore heads today.

Here’s who the drum & bass loving community voted for in 2015…

  • this results are so…meeeh. WHERE THE HELL IS MUZZY???? Like not even Get Crazy made it!!! WTF???

And Noisia for best live act??? This list is a JOKE!

  • I am really disappointed by most of the results 🙁 I have already touched some of the problems of this competition before final voting in my blog here: http://musicintelligencednb.com/2015/11/04/dnb-arena-awards-2015-vote/

Some categories need to be better described (and maybe nominees should be approved), difference between newcomer and standard artist is not clear, many live act nominees are not that live. Maybe general public should take vote just in round 2 from the prepared nominees list. I hope, there will be some improvements for the next year. I’m sad that some really serious DnB masterpieces didn’t even make it to the final voting – new albums of Marky, Break, Makoto and A Sides, live act of Goldie, and more…
