Did you know Hospital Records, True Playaz, Renegade Hardware and CIA were all launched in 1996?

Or that Lynx, TC, Artificial Intelligence, Misanthrop, Silent Witness, Ill Skillz, Cyantific, BCee and Fracture all made their professional debut release in 2002?

Or that Camo & Krooked, S.P.Y, InsideInfo, SpectraSoul, Sigma, Brookes Brothers, Jade, Survival, Cern, Bachelors Of Science, Jaydan, Jubei, C.A.B.L.E, Bladerunner, Quadrant and Chimpo all broke through with debut releases in 2006?

Or that US house don Todd Terry released a drum & bass album in 1999? Or that Friction released on Dillinja’s Valve? Or that the term liquid was first used in a D&B context on Fabio’s Creative Source imprint in 2000 with the album Liquid Funk Volume 1?

All these facts and heaps more can be found right here courtesy of our friends at Drum&BassArena.

They’re celebrating 20 years at the forefront of the scene as a community and platform for fans, artists, DJs, labels, promoters and everyone involved in the scene to unite and develop the unique genre as it spread from its underground roots around the world.

The celebrations have been going on all summer with arena and stage takeovers at key festivals across Europe such as Let It Roll, Sundown and Bladerunnaz. Now they continue with the most detailed timeline site on the genre ever created.

Covering every year from 1996 to 2016, all label launches, artist debuts, key moments and key tracks are detailed year on year. Prepare to say goodbye to your free time – as this one goes deep. It’s especially interesting when you look back at particular years and realise just how vintage they were for artist debuts.

Dig deep, digest and nerd the Dickens out of your mates. Drum&BassArena also have an equally historic and explorative 20 year album due November 4 and have curated some of the most on-point year-on-year playlists on Spotify. They’re also working on a full length documentary covering the same 20 years of groundbreaking, life-changing, game-shaping music we all love.

Drum & bass: music that’s designed to stimulate and be celebrated very in the moment but needs to be accurately documented to ensure generations can appreciate the roots, foundation and innovation that paved the way in the first place. The history continues…
