Standard Thursday procedure: dig deep through the UKF vaults and cook up a Throwback Thursday treat.
Not this week, though… Drumsound & Bassline Smith are taking the throwback honours with news on VIP that’s set to drop on Technique/Human very soon. All hail the 2007 ho-heaving banger: Demo & Cease – Ladies Night!
“The original was a massive tune back in the day which we loved,” says Simon Bassline Smith. “A proper ‘passport tune’ which you could play anytime anywhere. We played it probably every set as did just about every DJ from Andy C to Bad Company to Fabio & Grooverider.”
Now comes the VIP, which they teased on Facebook last week and racked up over 10,000 views in less than 24 hours.
“We’d been going through old tunes for inspiration and at the same time between that we’d been making loads of new noises,” explains Simon. “It just so happened that one particular noise sounded like Ladies Night which we’d just listened to on vinyl so we thought, hey wouldn’t it be great to bring that one back into our sets. We spent the rest of that week on it and played it out at our next gig.”
“The response was instantly huge.”After a few weeks of playing it, I hit up (Damien) Dieselboy as the original was on his Human Imprint label and played it too him. He loved it too. He then played it to Demo & Cease and sure enough they also liked it….”
If you’re wondering what Demo & Cease are up to now, Demo suffered a nasty car crash five years ago. His recovery has been long and painful but he’s back in the studio and about to drop plenty more science on us. Cease, meanwhile, is now in a hardcore band!
