Established October 2020 as a means to unite and promote womxn and non binary artists across all forms of bass music, Enada‘s Dynamics organisation has continued to grow since its launch with a whole range of articles, mixes, social posts and, as of this week, a brand new mini documentary series: Featured.
“We felt it was hugely important to start a project like Featured at Dynamics, as we believe that it is vital to document artists journey’s through music,” explains Enada. “We hope it will inspire the next generation of music creators, especially females wanting to get into the music industry.”
The first episode is Featured: Sweetpea x Dynamics. Marking 20 years since Sweetpea first got decks at the age of 12, the episode features stories and collaborations with friends and peers Chickaboo, Visionobi and Sicknote all capturing her passion for drum & bass, her history, rise and challenges she’s faced as a womxn in bass music.
“‘I’ve been a huge supporter of Dynamics since their inception and feel absolutely honoured to have been asked to be a part of this project,” says Sweetpea. “In general lots of D&B documentaries usually feature the same 10 artists and the women that created and helped shape the scene are forgotten about or not added, so a series dedicated to uplifting and bigging up women of music is amazing! It’s so important to document culture and learn about others’ experiences, which is why the Featured series is needed and important. The drum and bass scene is a world wide family and we’ve all got our own stories to tell.”
Sweetpea’s own story takes us from her roots as a young hip-hop and garage head to dedicated junglist via the pirates, dubplate culture, the art of DJing and her current work with equality movement EQ50 and labels such as Spearhead.
“Sweetpea has made such an impact in this industry over many years and artists like her are few a far between,” says Enada. “She has nothing but pure passion and dedication to this industry. Sweetpea was such a dream to work with and we were so honoured to have her involved in this project. We have some incredible artists lined up for the rest of the series. We are so excited to release these over the course of the next year. We hope that the viewers will love the honest and true narrative of each episode. Massive thanks to FOLD London and Rachel our videographer for helping us get this off the ground.”
