Props to Professor Pavilion.
The Circus Records co-founder recently published a short video about the importance of DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ poll and how he feels we should all take part to ensure the poll reflects what’s really going on across all scenes.
As he’s said to us in his most recent UKF interview, he’s never really stopped touring for the last six years. Playing festivals, clubs and arenas the world over weekend-in, weekend-out, Flux has channeled his vantage point into a discussion that covers all sides of the electronic music cannon.
Shouting out Flume, Pretty Lights, Snails, Brillz, Andy C, Gesaffelstein and Brodinski, he asks fans to vote “for the right reason” and for “the music that we believe” and explains that most artists don’t feel comfortable to ask for votes… So he’s going to do it on their behalf.
Echoing the issue we expressed when the poll was announced earlier this month, Flux is candid about the importance of the poll but highlights how it should really reflect what’s actually going on in electronic music… And not just the more commercial big bucks guys.
Chances are many of us have never voted ourselves because we don’t feel the Top 100 actually relates to our own favourite corners of the ever-sprawling electronic music world. So he’s suggesting we get involved ourselves. And he’s done so without garishly hyping himself or the Circus fam… Although any added interest in him or his label’s artists and the fact he’s got an album ready to drop imminently will enjoy a little kickback from this well articulated campaign.
Fair play! Check the video below and, if you haven’t already, have a cheeky vote yourself.
