Free Download: Benga – Lythium

As we suspected, yesterday saw Benga activate an epic Twitter crusade. His mission: to achieve 690 retweets and give away a brand new dubstep track.

He’d tried it the day before but only achieved 71 retweets. But that didn’t deter the man in any way. If anything, it galavanised his attitude even more. Ardently hyping up his followers (and getting key retweets from fellow dubstep artists such as Emalkay) it took 12 hours to reach his ambitious RT total before unleashing the new track at 3am UK time this morning.

Currently entitled Lythium, but various tweets refer to it as I Am A God, he’s also tweeted that Kanye will be doing vocals on it and to grab it sharpish before he is made to “take it down.” It’s also clear that an album is very much en route and it will be entitled 2020.

Whether it’s Kanye, Skepta, P Money or any other micsmith dropping bars on the final version, it’s a slick groove that’s clearly purpose built for MC damage. Check it out and download it below and tell us what you think. It’s great see Benga return to his roots and what’s really interesting is the reaction that the track has had since he first started teasing us on Monday… People are really excited about his return to dubstep.

What with confirmation of Caspa and Rusko reuniting and Skream stepping up to DMZ’s 10th birthday anniversary a few months back, perhaps we’re about to enjoy a mid/late 2000s dubstep renaissance? Interesting times…

In the meantime, here’s Benga – Lythium. Grab it while you can and stay locked for more information on his album.
