July 14: Today would have been Marcus Intalex‘s 50th birthday.
The hole Marcus left in electronic music and club culture over four years ago still remains as raw and unfilled as ever, but his legacy has never been stronger; both in the countless artists he inspired musically and the great work of the Marcus Intalex Music Foundation (MIMF) who continue to empower, nurture and teach the new generation.
To mark Marcus’s legacy, the anniversary of his birthday and help raise funds for the MIMF, old friends Future Cut have released a brand new remix of their Marcus collaboration Plastic by Quadrant & Iris. The first of many collaborations between Future Cut and Marcus Intalex, Plastic featured on the VA EP – Three The Hard Way, Future Cut’s first appearance on Renegade Hardware.
“This release is hugely important for us on so many levels,” state the duo. “Not only is it a reworking of one of our favourite tracks but to be able to honour Marcus’s memory and raise money for his foundation means a lot to us.”
Quadrant & Iris’s remix is the first time Plastic has been revisited since its original release 23 years ago, it can be purchased and streamed on all platforms right here. You can check it here:
“Future Cut and Marcus Intalex were both hugely influential to us when we entered the scene, and Plastic in particular was one of the blueprints for the style that we’ve tried to carry on throughout our careers,” state Quadrant & Iris. “Needless to say, getting the opportunity to put our stamp on it was a thrill and an honour. We did our best to pay homage to the vibe of the original, while giving it an update so that it can be appreciated by audiences for the next 20 years. Hopefully we hit the mark!”
They most definitely did. Plastic – Quadrant & Iris mix is the second release on Future Cut’s new label Future Cut Recordings. More classics are expected to be revisited in due course.
