Last month Halogenix uploaded a collection of edits with a view of raising as much money as possible for a selection of deserving causes. He’s not sure which causes yet, and is fully open to suggestions, but wherever the proceeds go, he’s already raised over £1200.
Digging deep across his influences well beyond the D&B sphere he’s been known for, the edits in question range from RnB to future bass to neo soul as GIVĒON, Brent Faiyaz, San Holo and Khruangbin all get the Halogenix treatment.
“Most of these edits started as attempts to flip the tracks as samples,” he explains. “But the more I worked on them, the less I wanted to chop them up and the more I just wanted to marry the original with rolling beats and a bassline.”
“Edits are such an integral part of club music these days and I find myself making quite a few of them. I wanted to share them with the world instead of just let them gather dust on my computer and rather than just give them away for free why not make the exploitation for a good cause and allow people to donate if they wanted. It’s been really amazing to see people paying £10-20 for a pack of edits that you could just download for free.”
A great reflection of Halogenix’s supporters and the D&B scene at large, this isn’t the first time Halogenix has raised money for essential causes and organisations. His Dragon Force glyph tee in 2020 raised over £6000 for a variety of charities within the Black Lives Matter movement and he hopes to spread the proceeds for different causes once again.
“I’ve currently raised over £1200 and I’m going to be splitting the donations into chunks of £250 and spreading it around, focusing mainly on charities that feed vulnerable people and provide support for victims of domestic abuse,” explains Halogenix. “I’m also open to suggestions if people have any charities they would like to put forward as I’ll be trying to find new ones to donate to every month.”
If you have any suggestions for Halogenix please hit up on his usual social media channels, all linked below, and head to his Bandcamp to get hold of the edits if you haven’t already.
Stay tuned for more Halogenix information in the coming months, too. More edits may well surface to raise funds in the future, and he’s hinted at some very big plans coming up a little later in 2022.
