Less than two months after Andy C’s absurdly good edition in June, Radio 1’s famous long-running mix series returns to 170BPM territories once again as Critical Music bossman Kasra will make his Essential Mix debut this Friday night.
1am – 3am BST: Lock down your aerials. The Essential Mix is still seen as the gold standard in mixes and Kasra’s not taking his role lightly. He promises a set full of exclusives, classics and all things in between.
“It was a real honour to be asked to contribute to the Essential Mix series,” he tells us. “I wanted to do the opportunity justice by putting together a mix that represents what is important to me about this music. Over the 2 hours there are the tunes that got me into drum & bass, some of my favourite Critical classics from across the years as well as a lot of what makes up my DJ sets in 2019, which includes a lot of unreleased music! I’m excited to hear what people think, to me its an honest snapshot of exciting underground drum and bass in 2019.”
The mix follows his busiest run of releases to date with killer EPs both solo and as Circuits landing in recent months. If his set with InsideInfo on the Arcadia stage at Glastonbury a few weeks back was anything to go by, this is going to be another landmark Essential Mix for drum & bass fans.
Kasra’s Essential Mix will be broadcast on Radio 1 at 1am, Saturday July 20. Find more details on the BBC website.
