Finally…. KOAN Sound have confirmed that their long awaited debut album will land next month.
Three years in the making, the album Polychrome will be released on December 7 on KOAN Sound’s own new label Soshin Records.
They teased with a preview last night…
The album weighs in at 11 tracks and runs the KOAN gamut; evocative soundscapes, lavish cinematic compositions, sudden twists and surprises, oodles of funk and soul and beats that provoke both in a home listening context and on the dancefloor. Fully instrumental with each track melting into each other, Polychrome was written as a classical album trip to be enjoyed and performed from start to finish.
“We wanted the album to be listenable but also work live at the same time,” the Bristol duo Jim Bastow and Will Weeks explain. “That was the hardest part. We made every track as a cinematic piece; each one tells a story. There isn’t a lot of repetition in terms of structure and arrangement, and each progresses in such a way that we can play it live in its entirety.”
The album will drop fully next month and be led by single Virtual Light, which you can hear elements of in the teaser above. Next year sees KOAN Sound launching the album in earnest on February 16 at Bristol’s iconic Trinity Centre with the full live band and visuals that are based on the macro photography used in the album artwork.
With plans for a full live tour and festivals throughout 2019, we’re about to see how much three years of pure diligence and attention to detail pays off. The wait has totally been worth it; Polychrome is the sound of two of the most exciting and innovative artists UKF has ever had the pleasure to support levelling up in a major way. Full tracklisting and KOAN socials below; stay tuned for more details and revelations as they come in.
