VIP in the hole!
Phace & Mefjus have just unleashed an updated version of The Mothership. First released in March 2015 on Phace’s Shape The Random album, The Mothership is an arrangement of builds, switches and cool af spoken word samples that never sits still and constantly keeps you guessing. Loaded with their trademark rough funk and stark sci-fi aesthetics, the original alone remains a viable source of head-messery and bass grimaces for the dance today.
The VIP – unassumingly unleashed without fanfare on Friday afternoon – compounds these factors with an instant uplift, a much gruffer, riffier bassline, mischievous echoes of the original’s slap bass and heavier use of the expertly excavated spoken samples. In short; it slaps and is up there with Bang Bang as one of the best collaborations the two tech titans have given the world so far.
