Technique Recordings announce 20th anniversary celebrations

We’re not even half way through February and already in 2019 Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s Technique Recordings have dropped four singles from the likes of Tantrum Desire, Smooth, No Concept and North Base. They’ve launched their own Technique Academy where the likes of Simon Bassline Smith, Andy Drumsound and Youngman will provide courses, tutorials and workshops on all aspects of the industry.

Now they’ve announced the start of their 20th anniversary celebrations with a massive three-part album comprising classics, unreleased dubs, remixes and exclusive new tracks from the likes of Roni Size, Bladerunner, The Prototypes, Kanine, Digital and many more. The release will roll out from spring and it kicks off this Friday with a massive party at The Cause, London. We asked the guys for more information…

20 years! Does it feel that long?

In some ways, yeah. We’ve come a long way since 1999. A lot has changed in D&B and in music in general since we started Technique Recordings. Downloads changed the game, then streaming has done it again. But, from another point of view, that twenty years hasn’t made a difference. We’re just doing what we’ve always done. We’re still trying to make and release good D&B music and find talented producers who want to do that too. I think that’s the main thing I take from the last twenty years… Seeing these artists take the opportunities we’ve been able to give them and absolutely smash it. People like Tantrum Desire and, recently, the likes of No Concept just needed a platform and maybe a bit of guidance and now they’re consistently killing it. Hopefully that’s the main legacy of twenty years of Technique Recordings.

How are you celebrating this milestone?

Well, obviously we’re not letting our twentieth anniversary go by without a massive album project. Big tunes, big artists! We’ve got music from people like Roni Size, Bladerunner, The Prototypes, Kanine, Digital… The list goes on. It’ll be in three parts: remixes, unreleased dubs and brand new music. We’ve also just launched the Technique Music Academy, which is something I’ve been thinking about for a good few years now. Me, Andy Drumsound and Youngman are teaching courses in DJing, production, vocals, and the music business to hopefully give the next gen the benefit of our experience. And, of course, we’ve got a run of Technique Takeovers.

It all kicks off this week, right?

This Friday, February 15. It’s coming round quick! We’ve found a wicked venue for it. Ravers are going to feel those proper warehouse vibes. We’re bringing along Grooverider, DJ SS will be playing a jungle set, Logan D and Harry Shotta and Document One. We’re spanning the spectrum. Plus of course, we’ve got the Technique soldiers Tantrum Desire, No Concept, Youngman, and Toddlah. And obviously ourselves Drumsound & Bassline Smith. It’s going to be a sick night. The perfect way to set off our twentieth anniversary celebrations.

What else do we need to know right now?

Pay attention and watch for what’s coming! We’ve already had four releases this year and we’ve got a lot more where that came from, we’re going on the road with our 20 Years of Technique Takeovers, we’ve launched the Technique Music Academy and it’s only just February. I’d just say, keep your eye on our socials so you don’t miss any announcement. It’s twenty years of Technique Recordings… We’re celebrating it properly!

Celebrate with Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Grooverider, DJ SS, Tantrum Desire, Logan D & Harry Shotta, Document One and more @ The Cause, February 15
