The Drum & Bass Awards has announced their event and nominees for their 2021 show. The streamed event will be held online on Sunday May 2, 7pm UK time, and it will be the first time the winners have been selected by a panel of industry professionals.
The panel includes artists such as Bryan Gee, Mollie Collins, Nicky Blackmarket, Wilf from North Base, Grant Epidemik and Drum & Bass Awards founder MC Magika plus a selection of journalists from Magnetic Mag, Mixmag and DJ Mag.
“This year’s awards sees a panel of industry legends and journalists who all were responsible for this year’s nominees and then winners in turn,” explains Magika. “It’s the first time this has been done and follows suit from the likes of the Mercury Music prize and NME awards where nominees and winners are selected primarily by a specialist panel. There was some opinionated moments to say the least as was expected but over all the panel took on a hard challenging task and collectively did really well.”
The nominees for all 18 awards were announced yesterday Monday March 22. The full list can be read below but artists up for multiple nominations for include Koven (artist of the year, best female DJ) Azza & Grima (best MC and artist of the year), Degs (best album and online event) Ray Keith (best radio show and legend award), Voltage (best DJ and best producer), John B (legend award and best online event), DRS (best MC, best vocalist), Gray (breakthrough DJ and breakthrough artist) and also UKF for best online event and best label. Serum, meanwhile, has been nominated for three – best producer, best track and best album.
Other talking points include the classic A.M.C / Andy C toe-to-toe position in the Best DJ category, the fact Souped Up is running against four of the longest standing labels in the game, DRS is nominated Best Vocalist and Best MC category when he’s publicly requested not to be nominated for any awards and the sheer amount of new talent all represented across the numerous breakthrough categories. See for yourselves and see you in the chat on Sunday May 2 as the show will be hosted across multiple pages including The Drum & Bass Awards, Drum & Bass Bible, Rough Tempo and Raveology.
The Drum & Bass Awards will also be celebrating 15 years of awards at Forbidden Forest on October 30 with Chase & Status, Hybrid Minds, Kings Of The Rollers, SaSaSaS, Sub Focus, Benny L & Randall, Bou and Horizon. For more details on the awards and this event visit their website.
