Letting the madness in your head flow freely from inside and out into the world through whichever form of art you express is the way you’re going to achieve something extraordinary.
This is what it’s like in the head of the young producer Rohan Chauhan. Born and raised in India, he relocated to the UK three years ago to attend the SAE Institute for Sound Engineering. With three uploads on the UKF channels already and recently being signed to Circus Records, KAOS has released his debut EP this week.
“I’ve been making music for the past four or five years,” he tells us. “When I first started it was right around when Flux’s Lines In Wax EP came out, since India is always a bit behind in getting new music. That EP, especially the track I Can’t Stop, as well as what Nero were doing around that time, was what really influenced me. I was drawn to the UK sound so when it came time to make a decision on where to move, I chose London.”
From London he dives deep into a global ocean of bass. Here’s how he got here…
He’s got a great support system
“Before I chose music I was planning on going into computer science and engineering. I did go to engineering college for a year, and that’s when I realized I’m better at music and this is really what I want to do. So I dropped out of college and moved to London.
I’m really thankful that my parents are so supportive. They told me that if I think I can do well pursuing music that I should go forward with it. Basically my Dad said if you also have a path of a day job – which I was, as a mixing engineer – then go ahead.”
People categorize me as a trap producer, and it’s easy to put me in that category, but I really don’t think I’m a trap producer. It’s trap, it’s hip-hop, it’s deep house, it’s future…. It’s all a big mixture of sound and that’s what I like to do; there’s a controlled chaos in my head.
Gentleman’s Dub Club hooked him up with Circus
“There’s a club in London called Electric Brixton and there was this band playing called Gentleman’s Dub Club who I really like. Sadly, I couldn’t make the show but my manager went. She ended up meeting the front man of the band who happened to know people at Circus. One thing led to another, my EP got passed on to Circus and Flux, Doctor P and everyone there really liked it.
Circus is perfect for me right now. I wanted to be based on a more UK-based label. I could have gone with an American label because I’m making trap-based music, but I wanted a local scene. Circus is perfect.”
He wants you to leave genres at the door…
“The kind of music I make isn’t just one genre. I would like to inspire people to not pigeonhole themselves into one type of electronic music, make whatever they feel like making, always experiment but have your signature sound.

If you listen to Bitchcraft and Indigo, the samples I’ve used are very 80s and I’ve tried to make something new with them. Indigo is sort of glitch-hop and Bitchcraft, well I don’t even know what that is! It’s a house BPM but it’s also future bass and just purely chaos! I’ve grown up listening to so many different sounds. And having all that in my brain when I make music lets me go any direction I want…”
