6 Of The Best: Zomboy Remixes

Next week sees the release of Zomboy’s Resurrected remix album.

With versions from some of our favourite names in bass music – MUST DIE!, Barely Alive, DC Breaks, The Prototypes, Twine, Dillon Francis and more – PLUS two brand new Zomboy originals (Resurrected and Back Once Again), it’s yet another ace in the hole for Never Say Die and their finest undead bass slinger.

To celebrate the release, this week’s Six Of The Best rounds up six of Zomboy’s own remixes. Dating back to his earliest moves four years ago, we’ve plotted the Z-man’s best reversions… And we’ve done so without mentioning the whole Terror Squad/Skrillex debacle from last year. Well, except for then.

Enjoy…

DJ Fresh – Hot Right Now (Ft Rita Ora) (Zomboy Remix)

2011: Zomboy had just emerged with the agenda-setting Game Time and Organ Donor EPs. Fresh off remixing Flux’s Bass Cannon, he switches up DJ Fresh’s second UK number one hit with a sweet piano intro that gives no hint at the sickness that’s about to follow…

Foreign Beggars (Ft Skrillex) – Still Getting It (Zomboy Remix)

Pretty respectful of Skrillex’s original licks but switching out the higher-end noises for a darker, grittier feel, this one still slams. Especially the rhythm switch around the two minute mark.

Modestep – Sunlight (Zomboy Remix)

2013: That bass, though! A textbook lesson in how to switch up an already awesome song. Pure Zomboy remix chaos.

Hadouken! – Parasite (SKisM & Zomboy Remix)

Two main reasons for picking this one… One: it features the don that is SKisM. Two: they’ve really capitalised on Hadouken!’s rockier dynamics and coded them so well into their ferocious dubstep techniques that the builds punch on an almost Noisia-like level. Bonus third: It bangs!

Dillon Francis – When We Were Young (Zomboy Remix)

Francis showed off his softer side on his original. Zomboy, meanwhile, showed off his ridiculous sound design abilities on this remix. Just plain filth!

Fedde Le Grand & DI-RECT – Where We Belong (Zomboy Remix)

Yet another example of how to take a pretty light, hands-up EDM cut and TOTALLY rip the dance apart.

Stay tuned next week week for a full interview with Zomboy on UKF!
