LISTEN: Pendulum return with a clip of brand new material

With the Pendulum Trinity live project launching last year, and now set to headline many of this summer’s most prominent festivals, speculation among fans for the first fresh Penulum since 2011 has been high for months.

These levels have increased somewhat this weekend with Rob Swire teasing a short WIP on Instagram…

30 second WIP demo

A post shared by Rob Swire (@rob.swire) on

Posted January 11, Saturday evening UK time, by the enigmatic band co-founder and frontman Rob Swire, the 30 second clip packs all the classical Pendulum punches; strong rock fusion, hooky lyrics and as much of a hint at anthemic as you can get off a short work in progress. Rob has also tagged in Pendulum’s main profile, ensuring this most definitely is new material from the band and not a new project or bizarre change in direction for Knife Party.

Following the band’s Reworks album in 2018 – which comprised remixes of Pendulum’s many classics from the likes of Skrillex, Noisia, Matrix & Futurebound and Devin Townsend – this is the first sign of new studio Pendulum material since the Immersion album in 2010 and the band’s last single in 2011; Ransom, a 2009-produced unreleased track which was released to raise funds for crisis relief in Japan in the wake of the tragic earthquake and tsunami.

No further information is available at present but the band did alude to new material last year when they announced Pendulum Trinity. The live concept that brings the original trio Rob Swire, Gareth McGrillen and El Hornet together on stage for the first time years, it came with a promise of a series of EPs and eventually an album. With elements of new material in their live shows, especially on the epic introduction, could this WIP be another step closer to a brand new Pendulum album? We look forward to finding out…
