On February 6 a devasting earthquake struck central Turkey and Northern and Western Syria. As the second-strongest earthquake to ever be recorded in the region the impact of this natural phenomenon was severe. Catastrophic damage was caused to an area as wide as 350,000 km2 which, for scale, is almost the same size as Germany. Schools, hospitals, and homes were all destroyed with no warning, and it’s been reported that 4 million buildings have been affected. As of 13 March 2023, over 120,000 people have been injured, and more than 55,700 deaths were confirmed with more than 48,400 in Turkey, and more than 7,200 in Syria.
While we may be seeing less of this tragedy on the news, the survivors in this region are still in desperate need for help. Motion Bristol have announced that they will be running a fundraiser for the British Red Cross Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal on April 1.
To help those affected by these heartbreaking events, Motion has pulled together a mammoth lineup, each and every penny of the proceeds will be donated to The British Red Cross Turkey-Syria appeal. Billed for the show are Redlight, Royal T, Champion, Subshift plus a very special guest. The minimum donation for a ticket is £5, but we urge you to pay what you can to help support the millions of people striving to rebuild their lives.
These donations will be used to reach people in urgent need in the aftermath of the earthquakes. It will provide support and aid that includes:
- Distributing essentials like food water and blankets
- Setting up temporary shelters to support thousands of survivors who are facing freezing conditions
- Providing first aid and crisis support
- Assisting with the rescue efforts and getting people vital medical aid
- Providing psychosocial support to those who have been traumatised
George Thoburn from Motion shares:
We will always strive to use our resources and platform to help raise money and awareness for important causes such as this, whether it’s on a local or global scale. Motion wants to support communities in every way we can, as we strongly believe community and togetherness are what raving is all about.”
