In Breton mythology, Ankou is the collector of souls; the dark servant of death, casting a foreboding shadow over all who catch a glimpse. And that same sense of menace runs straight through Ankou’s productions. If you like your dubstep on a moody tip, this one’s for you.
Hailing from Poland, Ankou has been unleashing menacing half-time on labels like Inspected and Saturate Records, firmly cementing himself within the original, atmospheric and brooding strain of dubstep that first gave the genre its notoriety.
We believe the best way to get to know someone is to look through their record collection. Today, we want to get to know Ankou, so we’ve asked them who their ones to watch are for 2026.
Moghee
Moghee (/ˈmɔː-ɡiː/) and I have known each other for a couple of years, he’s also from Poland. Previously known as all your friends, he decided to rebrand and create the Moghee project which in my opinion is really spectacular. Not many releases but his very first release was already released on Noisia’s label VISION. Really underrated producer and I really hope to hear more from him soon!
Ceptre
Another producer from Poland. Really skilled and talented sound designer, the king of darkness and distortion. Mostly focused on drum & bass and neurofunk style, definitely deserves much more recognition.
Livtet
A new solo project of Frank from TESSERACTS. Frank and Filip are killing it right now but we should give some love to this project too! His latest double single release on Inspected was really beautiful, combining downtempo, sound design and instrumentation. Really worth checking his other releases too.
Madan
I do not know much about Madan but they caught my attention with that latest release on Saturate Records. I absolutely love the vibe on this one – breaky percussion, heavy but melodic. One of my favourite songs this year so far and I will be looking forward to hearing more!
Fake Two Piece
Last year I heard of Fake Two Piece for the first time, when I heard that song I instantly bought the vinyl of their EP. Insane song, brings me back to the Halftime vibe that really got me into this scene and it’s not heard much anymore. After hearing their EP, I decided to contact them and we managed to make a song together! I really hope halftime has a big comeback and so it’s as good as this one!
TRAKA
One of my absolutely favourite projects in the bass scene right now. They have been killing it for the past couple of years and I had at least one song from them in every set I have played lately. This one is a real dancefloor killer.
COIDO
Previously known as Disprove. I feel like his new project does not receive as much love as it should. Rebranded from drum & bass to more club-oriented music that is super fresh to me. Loved every single release from him so far and cannot wait for more.
SKALA
I discovered SKALA this year. Her first release was an instant hit. Having a legend such as Killa P on the vocals is a huge accomplishment and I really want to support this sound. Minimalistic, straight to the point, real banger.
