Playlist: Shogun Audio

We started the week with MTA’s five year playlist. Now we’re finishing it by doubling up to decade status with a giant 35-track celebration of Shogun Audio’s 10 year activities.

Release this week: 10 Years Of Shogun Audio. Oozing freshness from each member of their talented troupe and released across all formats (including a high-end limited edition vinyl box set), the album represents everything Friction’s label has stood for during its ten year tenure… And the many directions it’s heading in the next decade.

10 YEARS BOX-1

Few labels rep the field as broadly and boldly as Shogun Audio. We thought we’d remind ourselves just how well they’ve done that by exploring their discography in this epic playlist. Boundary blurring, forward-thinking bass music from some of the most notable players in the game, it kicks off with the label’s very first release and digs deeper and deeper with every release.

A fitting salute to Shogun Audio and a fitting soundtrack to any weekend activities you have planned, this bangs in all manner of fashions. Enjoy.

Watch out next week for an incredible Shogun Audio competition, and feel free to impress your friends with these five random Shogun Audio facts:

  • Dave Kennett from Spectrasoul used to work at the Shogun office, he was the first employee
  • Shogun was started from Friction’s front room back in 2004
  • Shogun released Shock One’s first ever tracks in 2006: It’s On / Further Away From Me
  • The original Shogun logo was designed by SP:MC – it’s not an actual Japanese character but represents a person / soldier
  • One of the vocalists on the Back To Your Roots remix is Bradley from S Club 7
