A cheeky little #tbt vibe…
Just under two years ago we uploaded this beast of a remix from the mighty Noisia. A few months back the Teddy Killerz told us a little tale about the lengths the Groningen trio went to create this version. It took us a while to squeeze Noisia’s epic schedule for some verification, but they finally got back to us…. Turns out they did more than a dozen remixes, they spent weeks on it!
Not just an awesome Throwback Thursday session, but an super-salutable example of how fastidious and dedicated to detail these guys are. Enjoy…
The Prodigy – Smack My Bitch Up (Noisia Remix)
NOTE: We’re experiencing some technical difficulties with the video displaying correctly. Our technical team is working on this and should have it rectified soon.
“When we remixed Smack My Bitch Up there were no parts apart from that one fellow who’d sourced all the original samples on YouTube and remade most of the song. This was a great help, but the 303 sound was very poorly recreated… So we had to do that from scratch as we weren’t able to rent or find the original synth used. The problem with the 303 sound is that its character is determined by a resonant filter going into a distortion, that then generates most of its harmonics. When resynthesizing the sound, this resonant frequency needs to be tuned very precisely, and the following distortion does too. It was a very tedious process; two weeks of going into the studio every day, trying to recreate the sound with many different tools, failing, and trying again the next day. Until the sound was right.”
