Six Of The Best: Blu Mar Ten Productions

Blu Mar Ten celebrated twenty prosperous years in the game over the weekend.

It was clear the duo were destined for big things when their debut release was picked out by Fabio as his track of the year way back in 1996 when they looked like this…

Blu Mar Ten

Since that fateful release, the production powerhouse (now a trio comprising Chris Marigold, Leo Wyndham and Michael Tognarelli) have churned out a whopping five studio albums, releasing music on a wide selection of the genre’s finest labels including Hospital Records, Renegade Hardware and Shogun Audio.

As if that wasn’t enough, they also went on to create their own label, Blu Mar Ten Music, which has nurtured the likes of Kimyan Law, Need For Mirrors and Frederic Robinson.

Choosing the best tunes from producers who have such a vast back catalogue is never easy, but we’ve picked out six of the very finest…

Blu Mar Ten – Somewhere ft. Agne Genyte

In the eyes (or ears) of many, this is quite simply one of the most beautiful drum & bass tunes ever released. The trumpet – the one that takes you off this planet and into a magical faraway destination – is the icing on the cake.

Blu Mar Ten – The Fountain

When one of your tunes gets picked out by the discerning ears of Fabio, you know you’re doing something right. When it’s your debut release, you know you’re smashing it. This tune on the now defunct Way Out Records laid down the marker for the rest of BMT’s career.

Blu Mar Ten – Thin Air

Atmospheric drum & bass at its very best and one of the highlights of their Famous Lost Words LP. Robert Manos’ vocals suit the vibe of the track perfectly.

Blu Mar Ten – Motor City

Another one of the standout tracks on their most recent album, Famous Lost Words. While it might be the deep, atmospheric sound that they’ve become renowned for, this one, along with plenty of others, proves that they’re not strictly bound to that specific style.

Blu Mar Ten – In Your Eyes ft. Agne Genyte

This one further enhanced their reputation as versatile producers; a straight up dance-floor annihilator. Featuring the vocals of frequent collaborator Agne Genyte, it’s one of the hardest hitting tracks they’ve ever written.

Blu Mar Ten – Five Summers

Like any good outfit, Blu Mar Ten have shown that they’re capable of producing genres aside from drum & bass to aplomb on numerous occasions. This is one of their finest non-d&b escapades; a feel good summer sizzler with a riff catchy enough to stay in anyone’s head for a lengthy amount of time.

With an album forthcoming next year, it doesn’t look like Blu Mar Ten are hanging up their headphones just yet, thank God…
