Xfer Serum 2

I’m often asked what is “go-to” when producing, and the answer is easy Xfer Serum 2! But I want to remind you that gear is only as good as it allows you to express your vision through them! So I want to talk about how I approach using Serum 2 with you.
When making Bass Music, I’m often looking for what I call “The Wiggle”, that sound design pocket that makes the synth feel alive! This can be done in many ways: by subtle modulation with LFOs going only a couple steps or distorting two waveforms together and then scrolling through different shifts of the phase positions of each Oscillator to find a harmonic pocket. The Quest for ever new types of “Wiggles” is my jam!
Another technique that allows me to make the synth come alive is to think about each sound in 3 sections, the beginning, middle, and end. What does my sound do at each of these moments is how I approach using Serum 2 and adding modulation to fulfill each moment to be unique and moving. I use this technique throughout my song “Cosmic Club” which we just dropped on my label, Zot Records. All the basses have this intro/wiggle/outro intention behind them. I feel like this adds “life-like” energy to the synth sounds that I really enjoy.
