#TBT: Avicii & Sebastien Drums – My Feelings For You (The Prototypes Remix)

There could only be one Throwback track from the UKF vaults this week. In light of his recent retirement announcement, we’ve gone back to 2010 to re-experience the first, and only, time Avicii appeared on our channels: Avicii & Sebastien Drums – My Feelings For You (The Prototypes Remix)

In case you’ve been asleep or totally offline all week, Avicii bowed out gracefully from the game with a personal farewell on his Facebook on Tuesday. He’ll honour his shows and tour this year but after 2016 he’s taking a break from the music world indefinitely.

In his words he “could be back… But not right back”.

If you want to read the whole letter check it here. Weirdly he includes a phone number for you to contact him about this. It also includes more thank yous than an Oscar winner’s speech.

It seems like the whole world has responded to Avicii’s heartfelt letter – even Coca Cola tweeted him a biggup – proving his role, if it needed proving, as one of the premier ambassadors for mainstream electronic music this decade. For many he’s been the first port of call for dance music, opening the gates to the endless world of variety and creativity we all love ourselves.

Besides Skrillex’s remix of Levels, Avicii’s style of EDM and our passion for bass were sonic worlds far apart. But we respect him and what he’s achieved and will always love this epic Prototypes remix. An early sign of things to come from the Viper duo (who were then signed to Shogun) they took Avicii & Sebastien Drums’ hook – originally a Gwen McCrae vocal from 1979, sampled to awesome effect by Cassius in 1999 – and made it make total sense at 170BPM.
