We have a long line of Who The Hell features. And when we first heard the new VA EP on Noisia’s Division label we went into Who The Hell overload.
The label’s first various artist EP, it’s not just full to the brim of unique new talent but rather frothing right over the rim. Every track adding a new twist on the well-established halftime D&B/wonky beat bass sound, it’s loaded with exciting and fresh ideas and designs. From engine revving to industrial strength drums and twisted vocal textures, it’s a powerful, often disarming statement for the label to kick off a new year.
It kicks off with Noisia and Ivy Lab’s freshest co-lab creation Possession, which we caught for the channel. But there’s a lot more beyond the lead track. The rest of the beats come from Soundcloud-excavated names that might not be as well known. We collared Noisia’s Thijs to find out more…
JNTHN Stein
“Our love for the 85-90 bpm dancefloor friendly beats music really started off with two tunes: Ivy Lab – Planebeats, and JNTHN Stein – Cata. So we were very honoured to license Cata for our first EP. JNTHN Stein is from New York, and does some amazing stuff. Check out his Soundcloud.”
Signs
“A trio from Toulouse, France. They’re also known for their hard dnb, but on Division we’ve signed a couple of their groovy hip-hop tunes. Expect more!”
Ponicz
“A dubstep producer from the UK. It was a small step for him to do some halftime D&B / wonky beats tunes, and we think he absolutely killed it with West Coastin’.”
ARKTKT
“ARKTKT is a guy we first heard on Soundcloud, he’s from USA, and he’s got an amazing melodic style. We’ve got more from him on Division in the future.”
Monuman
“Monuman is a new project by Conor Corrigan, AKA Emperor. When I heard Rise on Soundcloud, I immediately texted him, called him, mailed him and sent him a Soundcloud DM. We needed that for Division. So happy we got this tune, it’s so sick!”
Sick indeed. Cop the whole package:
