Legends: 5 reasons why Yellow Claw are killing it right now

 Yellow Claw

Almost all trap shit that is coming from the states is 140 BPM. In Holland, we make most of it in 150 BPM. Nerd-translation: WE GO HARDER.

Known for evocative music videos and sonic originality, Yellow Claw have just gone next level with Legends. Released this week on Dim Mak, the trap powerhouse trio hailing from Amsterdam have developed their sound once again, this time partnering with newcomer Cesquax. We caught up with them to discover why Legends is a pivotal release…

The beats, the music video and the Kalibwoy’s chilling bars are as memorable as the track title suggests…

“We’re excited about it because it’s very different from the sound we produced when we were working on Amsterdam Trap Music Vol.2. The Legends EP became more authentic, more organic sounding – jungle sounds, worldly shit really. A big shout out to the songwriters who formed words to go along with our crazy sounding music.”

They’ve proven their ability across genres in trap, dubstep, electro, hip-hop and moombahton, releasing on countless influential imprints

“There’s a lot of stuff we are proud of… The fact that we got the chance to collaborate with guys like Beenie Man, Waka Flocka and Diplo, but also the fact that we got to remix artists like Tiesto and Iggy Azalea is one hell of an experience. Such talented and experienced artists.”

When it comes to trap, no one goes harder

“We really noticed the big difference when we started touring the US. Almost all trap shit that is coming from the states is 140 BPM. In Holland, we make most of it in 150 BPM. Nerd-translation: WE GO HARDER.”

Their bold anti-drug collab Techno is very provocative…

“Jim, our director, wanted to do something with this subject for a long, long time. When we pitched the idea to Diplo and the Mad Decent crew they really just felt the same way.

You would think [the collaboration came about] through the internet, email etc. right? Funny enough, this almost went the original way. We met up with Diplo who recorded the hook with Waka a while ago. And we went to our studio to work on it some more. Waka got on a plane a few weeks later to record the eight bar verse and the second hook and LNY TNZ came over to sprinkle some of their hardstyle magic over it. The beast was born.”

They still have a lot more in store…

“Expect new shit. A new single, new club music, clothing. Everything!”
