Whiney’s Weekender Playlist

A selector with an encyclopaedic knowledge of drum & bass in all its forms, Whiney’s sets are built on balance, taste and timing, pulling from the deeper end without losing the dancefloor for a second.

No need to wait for the summer festival season to party the whole weekend through. Hospitality are bringing the heat to the colder months with the return of their Butlins Weekender — and if there’s one person you want soundtracking it, it’s Whiney, we asked him which tracks are going to be doing the rounds.

Whiney, P Money, Frisco – Stop & Search (ft. Hugh Hardie & Sweetie Irie)

My favourite tune I’ve released in a while. Hugh and I had fun writing the initial idea in person with Sweetie and I was keen to get Frisco back on D&B after hearing his verse on Shy’s Balaclava and being a fan of his grime work for years. It wouldn’t have been right to now have a verse from P too. The track couldn’t have turned out much better, everyone smashed it.

Fred V & Krakota – Weightless (ft. Lottie Jones)

Another anthemic banger from Fred. Have heard him playing it out while we’ve been at shows together and there’s no doubt it will go off at a Hospitality in the early hours. Lottie’s vocals always compliment Fred’s tunes so well and the added filth from Krakota makes it one to listen out for.

Wilkinson, Camo & Krooked & Mefjus – Lose Control (ft. ILIRA)

I’ve enjoyed seeing the direction C&K have taken with their collaborative projects with Mefjus over the last few years and to hear they’d worked with Wilkinson too was even more exciting. The combination of all their styles is clear and the technical / musical combination is really impressive. A euphoric “prime-time” banger from some of the best producers in the scene.

Clipz, Rose Gray – The Touch

A bit different from Clipz’s usual style but the topline & vibe brings me back to the liquid sound I fell in love with around the early 2010s. The whole track has that feel-good summer vibe and feels the perfect tune for a Hospitality rave. One you’d love to hear mid-set in a 2nd room.

Hoax, PVC – The Samurai

My favourite tune from one of the best newcomers to d&b in the last couple of years imo. He’s nailed modernising the old school vibe with the wobbly bassline and stabs. Plus the catchy vocals from PVC make it a serious tune.

Flava D, Stush – Energy

I’ve always loved Flava D’s garage/bassline/dubstep & had this one on repeat recently. It’s a stylish dubstep beat which immediately gets your head-nodding. Paired with the catchy-singalong topline from Stush means instant gunfingers.

Makoto – Looking Down

The king of funk Makoto with another feel-good banger. I could have picked 3 or 4 Makoto tunes for this list as he has so many tracks like this in his catalogue. I’m a fan of Nathan Smoker who also features in this track so had to pick it and have had it on repeat since it dropped. Good vibes all round.

Crystal Clear & Amoss – Earthquake

One of my favourite tunes of 2025. First heard Bryan Gee playing it on dub and had been trying to find out who it was after hearing some other DJs dropping it too. Simple but really well put together tune and sounds huge on a system. Gets the dance floor rocking every time.

Hedex, Jozzy, e.motion – Can’t Decide

Stand out tune from Hedex’s recent album for me. Catchy vocal & synth lead which seems perfect for those 3am, late night rave feels & then drops as a punchy liquid tune. Another track that I could imagine going down well at a Hospitality rave in the early hours.

Ed Rush & Optical – Bacteria

One for the older heads but still stands up today. I remember hearing this tune not long after I was first getting into d&b and used to play it out when I first started djing. It’s a bit of an anthem and I don’t need to say much other than give it a listen (pretty loud).
