Hey, I’m Andrei—founder of Quite Lucky, the drum & bass wing of our creative agency, Overskin – The Culture Label, based out of Cluj, Romania.
What’s your ethos?
Quite Lucky exists to celebrate drum & bass and everything that grows around it—not just the music, but the people, the culture, the energy of a dancefloor at its best. Every event and release is a chance to connect that world with the wider creative industries we work in through Overskin.
Tell us your origin story…
Quite Lucky was born in 2022, when our crew realised we had a lot more to give the Romanian drum & bass scene than just our own DJ sets. We wanted to build something new on the events side, create a real platform for rising Romanian artists, and—through our creative agency—unlock brand collaborations that could support the whole ecosystem around it.
Tell us about your local scene…
Romania’s drum & bass scene is still under-the-radar internationally, but it’s tight-knit and growing fast. Cities like Bucharest, Cluj, Timișoara and Iași all have strong local promoters keeping things fresh and DJs deeply involved. With our events and the label, our aim is simple: get as many people as possible in touch with drum & bass and its energy. For us it’s still addictive after all this time, and we’ve watched that same spark hit other people too—whether they’re discovering it for the first time or finding their way back after years away.
Do you have a specific sound or vibe?
We’re fans of several corners of drum & bass, so right now we’re keeping things diverse on purpose—it’s our way of testing what people connect with and giving artists room to explore. We lean into liquid, soulful sounds, but also techy rollers with a dancefloor edge. The filter is simple: if it’s a HELL YES for us, we’re backing it.
Who can we see releasing with you?
We’re mainly focused on Romanian talent—backing their potential individually and through projects like Echoes, our creative drum & bass writing camp, which opens up space for local and international collaboration. Our first release, “Feeling Quite Lucky,” paired Blocksberg (vocalist, Cluj) with Azotix (producer, Iași)—two seriously gifted artists. Next up is Bogdvn, a young Bucharest producer who’s been tearing up dancefloors at clubs and festivals—we’re excited to host his sonic explorations on his upcoming EP. Plenty more surprises coming.
Tell us about your A&R process
Over the years we’ve built a solid network of artists, partners and labels, so there isn’t a lot of active scouting happening—we already know, on a medium-to-long-term basis, who we want on the label. We take it step by step, project by project. Running a music label is a different beast from running events, and we’re still learning exactly what it takes. A lot of it comes down to listening—playing unreleased tracks, researching, booking artists for our events—and letting the right people and projects surface naturally.
What makes you different from other labels?
Quite Lucky isn’t just a label—it sits inside Overskin, which gives us access to brand partnerships, cross-industry collaborations and creative production that most D&B labels don’t have. It’s also a genuinely diverse ecosystem, thanks to Echoes and the way we’ve built that project out in rural Transylvania, plus all the other ways we try to weave this music into people’s lives—events, coffee shop takeovers, documentary screenings, talks, workshops and more.
What does it take to run a bass music label in 2026?
A lot of patience, and the ability to adapt as things keep shifting under you. For us, being genuinely good support for our artists—helping turn their musical and creative vision into something real—is the priority. Community-first thinking and diversity are non-negotiable.
What have you got coming up we should look out for?
A few hot releases in the pipeline, including Bogdvn’s EP. Some great shows lined up in Bucharest and Cluj at two standout venues. And we’re just wrapping the third edition of Echoes—lots to sort through: finishing tracks, editing footage into content, building out the release calendar, and more.
