Butler & Bontan: Top 10 Deep House Essentials

Now knee-deep into our second year of total deep house ubiquity, the wagon-jumpers are falling by the wayside and the genuine talents with real staying power are becoming more and more prevalent, adding an authentic chapter to the genre’s 20+ year heritage. Genuine talents like UK freshmen Josh Butler and Bontan.

Responsible for one Ibiza’s insistent soundtracks Got A Feeling (Beatport’s second highest selling single ever) and, more recently, their MTA-released Found A Place, Butler and Bontan dig deep into house music’s psyche with respect and creativity. The most recent evidence of this behaviour being their Be True UK/Ireland tour.

Kicking off tomorrow – Friday 13 – at Sankeys Manchester (full tour dates at the bottom of the page), the title Be True says it all: Butler and Bontan know their roots and they’re paying homage to dance music’s most original source. Here they express their extensive knowledge with a serious schooling of deep house classics spanning right back to 1991. Dig deep and discover…

Frankie Knuckles – Your Love (1991)

Butler: “Because this is what started it all!”

Chez Damier – Untitled (1993)

Butler: “Chez Damier is one of the greats!”

The System – You’re In My System (Kerri Chandler Remix) (1998)

Butler: “If, for some reason, I had the option to only listen to 1 song ever again, this would probably be it.”

Floorplan – Never Grow Old (2014)

Butler: “This track gets a lot of love and I’m not about to stop sharing now!

De Sluwe Vos – Concrete Groove (2013)

Butler: “On the heavier side of things, but for me De Sluwe Vos is the man!”

Shaun Escoffery – Days Like This (Spinna & Ticklah Club Mix) (2001)

Bontan: “Hearing this record for the first time at the Southport Weekender was one of the happiest moments in my life”

Masters At Work – I Can’t Get No Sleep (Ft India) (1993)

Bontan: “Everything about this record just works.”

Lewis Boardman – Work On Me (2014)

Bontan: “The rolling bassline throughout the track is so addictive!”
