For some artists, the lockdown of 2020 presented a real opportunity. A way to develop and let their creative juices flow in new and uncharted directions. Platinum-selling DJ Charlotte Devaney was one of those artists. Born from the lockdown’s need to social distance Charlotte created the Hologram Sessions Series enabled her to perform DJ sets with MCs and singers. The first MC to join Charlotte in hologram form was the late great MC Skibbadee. And since then the sessions have hosted the biggest names in the game such as Big Narstie, General Levy, Scrufizzer, MC Neat, The Ragga Twins, IRAH, Doktor and Shabba D to name a few. So far the 20 Hologram Sessions which have been produced have amassed over a mammoth 5 million views across platforms.
On Sunday, Feb 12 Charlotte released an all-female showcasing three talented MCs Y-Zer, Enamie and Iffy. This session has been dedicated to the support of Junglist Movement founder Leke who is currently suffering from a rare tumour. Charlotte don’s one of his infamous Junglist Movement t-shirts which you can buy here. You can read about Leke’s story here and how you can donate to help.
Here’s what Charlotte, Y-Zer, Enamie and Iffy had to say about about the session.
Charlotte Devaney
The Hologram Sessions has been a real labour of love for me, and creating unique out-of-the-box content and being different is what I live for! This episode is extra special as it’s the first time I’ve had an all-female cast on Hologram duties! I’ve always been passionate about unity amongst females and pushing female artists since I first stepped into the scene as a young dancer in 2001, so I’m super gassed to be able to showcase these 3 super talented ladies who are smashing down doors in a massively male-dominated space! I’m also wearing one of my good friend Leke’s legendary Junglist movement t-shirts, I’ve supported Leke from the very start , and have always admired his relentless passion and hard work for his brand and the culture similar to myself! , so I’m dedicating this special episode to Leke, he’s going through a really tough time at present, having been diagnosed with a rare tumour and having recently had his leg amputated.”
Y-Zer
Had a lot of fun shooting the first all-female Hologram Session with the girls, the mix is banging and working with these ladies is always full of love, jokes and good vibes. Hopefully, this will be the first of many and we can keep showcasing female mc talent! Shouts to UKF and the team for backing this.
Enamie
Well first of all can I say it’s a massive honor to be a part of the first all-female Hologram Session. Never did I think 16 years ago when I first started to MC that things would have come this far with the female presence and acceptance in the drum and bass scene. It’s beautiful like the energy and vibes with these girls. Had crazy amounts of fun shooting this. Really hope you all enjoy watching this as much as we did making it. Thank you to all for your continued support and to UKF for checking this out!
Iffy
Such a powerful move for Charlotte to do an all-female Hologram Session! Perfect timing to showcase ourselves as the new wave of female artists coming through and make proud the ones who have laid the path for us.
If you’re feeling the feminine energy this galentine’s you can check out crew at Brixton bass on Feb 18 for their all female Valentine’s takeover.
