EXIT FESTIVAL 2014: An Alternative Top 10

Serbia… We are coming for you!

Three days remain between publishing this feature and pressing the red detonation button our X-Bass EXIT Festival night schedule takeover! Our second year of taking on the privileged responsibility of hosting the main stage from 1am to sunrise, we’ve put together an insane line-up for each night.

Thursday July 10

Dimension
Dub FX
Jaguar Skills
Andy C

Friday July 11

Rudimental Live
Koven Live
My Nu Leng
Fred V & Grafix with Dynamite MC

Saturday July 12

Gorgon City
Shadow Child

Sunday July 13

Sub Focus
TC
Adventure Club
Pretty Lights

We’re so proud of this line-up! A celebration of everything that’s exciting and forward-thinking about all shades of electronic music, we genuinely can’t wait to welcome all these acts to Novi Sad’s iconic fortress and get some serious party vibes on.

We also can’t wait to see loads of other people while we’re there. From disco diva legend Gloria Gaynor to the ever-progressive Blur/Gorillaz brain Damon Albarn, the line-up at this year’s Serbia megafest is next level.

Because we’ve snapped up 14 acts for our own line-up, and Top 14s really don’t make sense (and we’re not leaving one single talented artist out of our list), we’ve explored the rest of the festival line-up for other acts that excite us on the bill.

Mirroring our own line-up, this top 10 ticks every possible dance music box you can possibly need; each one of our picks showcases how discerning EXIT Festival is for music fans. Each one reflects just how broad and daring the EXIT team’s scheduling is. And how we’re stoked to be part of this for the second year running!

So here they are, in no particular order, 10 really cool electronic performances other than the shows we’ve curated ourselves. If you’re heading out to Novi Sad this weekend, we’ll see you there! If not, stay tuned to UKF as we’ll be uploading footage and features as they happen throughout the weekend…

Special Request

Paul Woolford’s heartfelt homage to jungle and the pirate era, his Special Request material has resonated with all crews, all genres. Historically timeless.

Nookie

Speaking of history… The hardcore legend that is Nookie has been booked for an exclusive 92-95 set. Expect classic after classic after classic. Formative business: We’ll be able to smell the nostalgia all the way from the main stage!

Jackmaster & Oneman present Can U Dance

Two men, four decks, multiple vibe attacks: Both Jackmaster and Oneman have made their names in the game purely as selectors. Kindred spirits, their b2b appearances have developed into a brand of its own. Can U Dance? Of course you can!

Akkord

Proper darkness! Manchester’s Akkord crew have been bubbling for the past few years. Sitting comfortably in that rich, subby genreless free-for-all, expect treacle-thick subs and beats so fractured they come with their own splints. Heaviness.

Tiga VS DJ Hell

Feeling the electrohouse revival? Trace the roots, read the history books, study the masters and you’ll find Tiga and DJ Hell’s names are listed and referenced frequently. One of the many b2b sets EXIT has exclusively commissioned, this is going to be huge.

Deep Dish

Feeling the deep house revival? Trace the roots, read the history books, study the masters…. You get the idea. Ali Dubfire and Sharam’s synergy behind the decks was stuff of legend in the 90s and early 2000s. It’s clear they still have the touch today.

Disclosure

Keeping with the deep house-du-jour soundtrack of 2014, Disclosure’s stage shows mirror their matchless dominance of both the underground and mainstream. Deservedly massive. Especially this sick co-lab with Friend Within.

Eats Everything VS Cassy

A lesson in deep, bassy tech-funk, the pairing of dirtybird-affiliate Eats Everything and globe-trotting tech-selector Cassy is a match made in groove heaven.

NZ Shapeshifter

Proper live drum & bass business from New Zealand. Shapeshifter have been killing it for over 15 years… And there’s no doubt whatsoever that they’ll kill it at EXIT festival, too.

Carl Cox VS Danny Tenaglia

Two techno titans go head to head once again… Both Cox and Tenaglia are bona fide dance music forefathers. They’ve been delivering the goods since day one and, having previously smashed it together at Ultra Festival a few years back, they have proved there are still many arena-razing techniques they can show the younger artists. Expect a proper schooling.
