It’s been a while since we stepped foot inside a producer’s kitchen. But the wait has been certainly worth it. Please make a space in your culinary repertoire for Friction’s Fire Chicken & Rice!
But before we talk tucker, Friction’s cooking up something very special for his next Elevate event…
On December 5, Crucifix Lane, London Friction will be joined by Technimatic, Emperor, SkankandBass and the one and only Zinc with a special jungle set!
“Elevate is a chance for me to showcase the wider spectrum of music that I love,” he explains. “I wanted to set up something different to the Shogun parties because they’re to showcase Shogun artists and I can’t be hogging the whole night! So Elevate is all about the smaller clubs, more intimate, closer vibe and playing whatever I feel like doing at the time. Rather than come in and do a banging one hour set I can go deeper and draw for some older classic tracks – and know the crowd will enjoy that. That’s the vibe!”
And what a vibe… The whole line-up is a celebration of all D&B’s many styles and shades. In keeping with the food theme, Zinc’s jungle special is the cherry on top of an exceedingly sweet cake.
“Zinc is a massive inspiration for me,” says Friction. “I’ve looked up to him for years. When he goes in on those jungle sets he goes IN. I really can’t wait for this! I can’t for the whole night. Technimatic and Emperor. SP and Linguistics hosting the night. It’s a family thing. It’s simply about the music that I love.”
Naturally Friction loves his munch too. We already know this from his Creamfields rider request. But he’s the first to admit he’s no chef.
I have to give full props to my mum. I’ve jacked this off her. She’s an inspiration in the kitchen. If she makes a bacon sandwich it looks like Gordon Ramsey’s done it. She kills it!
“Listen, I’ll be honest,” he admits. “I love food but I’m terrible at cooking! This recipe is one of the only meals I know I can cook. And I have to give full props to my mum. I’ve jacked this off her. She’s an inspiration in the kitchen. If she makes a bacon sandwich it looks like Gordon Ramsey’s done it. She kills it!”
Props to Friction’s mum, then. We tested this recipe last weekend. It’s not just tasty, it’s healthy and nutritious too. The secret behind the world famous Friction lean is now clear!
Try it yourself. Then get down to Elevate on December 5 and tell him what you think in person!

Friction Fire Chicken & Rice
Ingredients
Chicken breasts
Chopped onion and garlic
1 chopped chilli and a little Spanish paprika powder (pimenton)
Chopped chorizo
Rice (Basmati perhaps – about 250gms for 4 people)
2 tins chopped tomatoes
Chicken stock
Olive oil
2 roasted peppers
Green peas
Salt and black pepper
Directions
Cook the onion and garlic with olive oil in large pan then add chilli, paprika, chorizo – cook for a couple of minutes. Combine the rice and then add tomatoes and a little stock, cover and cook gently until the rice is soft (approximately 25 minutes)
Meanwhile, flatten and gently fry the chicken breasts on both sides in a pan with chilli butter – check that it’s cooked through and keep it warm.
Add a handful of cooked peas to the rice and check the seasoning. Serve the cooked rice with the chicken and some sliced, roasted pepper on top. Enjoy!
