Last time I spoke to Prince Fox he was in the middle of some serious life-changing decisions. Now graduated from NYU, signed and sealed with management and booking, and committing himself 100 per cent to music, we decided it would be good to catch up and hear about the awesome things happening for this young gun.
His latest remix of Cazzette’s Blind Heart peaked at number 18 on Beatport’s hip-hop chart and is currently sitting at number three on Hype Machine’s remix chart. Coming from a guy who only has one other release on Beatport we’d say that’s something to brag about.
“I’ve just finished my last semester of college and I’m really excited about going full time music,” he explains. “I’m kind of sad that it’s over. My whole life I was like college is going to be the most fun! But I really think what I’m going into now might be more fun. I’m really nervous, anxious, excited.”
“Having a team of people to deal with logistics, I’m now able to focus completely on new music. I really want people to expect the unexpected with my originals. Some of it is the future bass stuff like my remixes and some of it is deeper house combined with future bass and definitely has more of me than you could understand from listening just to my remixes. I’m playing guitar, I’m doing vocals, and I think it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. Hopefully the first of these originals will be out in January or February.”
Zero to sixty; this young talent’s career is taking off in a major way… And he hasn’t even released any original productions himself yet. Catch Prince Fox at the Shelborne Miami headlining a New Year’s Eve show. And make sure to keep an eye out for his first original music in 2015; we’re sure he’ll be looking at a successful year to come.
