#TBT: Camo & Krooked – All Night

Exactly four years ago Camo & Krooked gave us the beautiful beast All Night.

A keystone moment in their Zeitgeist album, All Night brought the document’s many musical influences and directions together. Evocative, warm and riddled with rushes; it’s also the quintessential example of the understated, restrained dynamic that’s since been coined as an ‘anti-drop’, a distinctive signature the duo had been teasing and developing since Turn Up several years before.

Back to the future: Markus and Reini have left us in a similar state of disarray with Mosaik. Released last Friday, it’s the album we’ve been waiting for since they first alluded to it in February 2015 with an Instagram post of machines such as the Moog Sub37 and Prophet 8. In the post they stated “we are currently in the process of making new and unique ideas happening and reinvent ourselves without losing our signature sound.”

Listen to Mosaik and those sentiments still stack up. Rolling with a journeyman flow and a rich stylistic span but held together with their distinctive warm, cosmic aesthetic, their fourth album is set to soundtrack our collective summers consummately. At points theatrical and dramatic, at others soft and soulful, Mosaik captures the duo at their most musically ambitious as they build on ten years of work together and build confidently into the future. We’ve copped a few of the album’s many highlights since they first confirmed Mosaik last October.

From the big tribal cohones of Witch Doctor to Markus Krooked’s delicate vocals on Honestly by way of the star-gazing, neck-snapping rolls of Mandala (with Mefjus), we’ve captured the widescreen span of the album during the build up to its release…
