Friday October 31: Drum & bass history will be made as Andy C fills the entire Brixton Academy as the venue’s first sole DJ headliner.
Brixton Academy’s history is peppered with illustrious music footnotes, electronic and otherwise. Both Pendulum and Moby have released live albums recorded at shows there, Sub Focus sold the venue out with his incredible live show and Ram Records have also sold the venue out with their own label event.
Andy C All Night, however, will be the first time a solo drum & bass artist has sold out the venue with a straight up DJ set. Besides Ram’s own additional lighting, visuals and branding, the premise is simple: It’s Andy C playing all night long. Well, there might be a cheeky warm-up DJ playing while everyone arrives…
“We’ve not decided what time I’ll be on,” Andy admits. “It’ll be between 11 and midnight and we’ll carry on until they chuck us out. The last one we did I was still playing until 7am!”
Not only that, but after his last All Night show he had to sit down behind the decks for 20 minutes to recover because he was mentally and physically exhausted!
“It’s a beautiful feeling to go on an epic journey with everyone,” explains the DJ who’s recently been on a studio renaissance and is about to drop Hearbeat Loud, his first solo single since last year’s Haunting / Workout.
“We’re all going up and down through the peaks and troughs together and it’s amazing to see everyone still there right at the end. We’ve shared something special together. When you’re up there, it’s such an exhilarating feeling. It’s my ultimate night out, taking part in everyone else’s night out.”
He might be renowned for having so many exclusives you can guarantee you will not hear a set like his anywhere else. He might be constantly showcasing cutlass mixing skills like his recent Radio 1 live Minimix recording last week…
But it’s his attitude that’s cemented the unique status he has in dance music. And that’s why All Night sold out within days of ticket sales being announced.
