On April 22 we ran this exclusive snippet of Zomboy’s WTF!?
Who knew that a 30 second clip could create such divisive opinion? For a few days it was like The Outbreak had actually happened: the internet melted down into hordes of walking dead groaning with one massive big room diss. A fiery dialogue of sharp critique, it led to fan memes like this…
And even for Zomboy himself to assure his massively passionate fanbase of his roots with this…
To celebrate the fact we’ve just uploaded the full version of WTF!? and the fact he’s jetting off to the US for his first full headline tour with his own heavyweight production crew in-tow, we called him to find out a bit more about the current backlash and what we can expect from the album… We left with an exclusive so big we’ve already quarantined a secret safe area in case another outbreak occurs.
I’m still heavy. I’m still tear-out. I’ve just broadened my inspirations because that’s what I want to do creatively…
“We caught them off guard!” laughs Zomboy. “People were expecting dubstep and D&B. They weren’t ready for this and I think a lot of people just jumped on the whole idea that I’d left my roots. They couldn’t be further from it. I’m still heavy. I’m still tear-out. I’ve just broadened my inspirations because that’s what I want to do creatively. It was a bit of an experiment and, to be honest, I avoided looking at most of the comments. I had to unless I wanted to go into a deep hole of misery. I knew people would be pissed so I didn’t look at them. It was what I felt was right at the time. Just trust me!”
Just trust me…
And here’s why we should trust the Z-monster… We are very excited to deliver the world premier preview of his album:
One and a half minutes of sonic savagery… Count the genres and you’ll be there for hours. It’s clear Zomboy hasn’t ‘gone all big room’. No selling out. No shark jumping. This is the Never Say Die-signed artist at his most exciting, extensive and electrifying. And it’s only a teaser!
“I think there’s something for everyone,” he considers. “At least I hope there is! This is just the beginning, too… I didn’t want to show every drop, I still have LOTS up my sleeve.”
Fans lucky enough to be stateside will be the first to experience Zomboy’s next level material during his performances on his Outbreak tour which kicks off on May 16…
“I’m so excited about it!” Zomboys gushes in his inimitable half dead style. “This is the first time I’ve gone out on the road with my whole production crew. There’s some next level visuals, animation and massive LED screens. It’s really interactive and the new tracks have a story line which will be revealed during the show. It’s just awesome and amazing.”
And, to console those of us who can’t catch him on tour, here’s one final slice of exclusive awesomeness: we can confirm that The Outbreak will be released on August 4. If that teaser is anything to go by, we can’t wait.
