Yesterday Zane Lowe announced he’ll be leaving BBC Radio 1 next month to work for Apple in the US.
One of the UK’s firmest fixtures when it comes to breaking, celebrating and pushing new music, Zane’s daily evening shows – broadcast between 7-9pm UK time – have been fuelled by freshness across every genre possible.
One of the first peaktime broadcasters to celebrate dubstep, Zane has been unafraid to drop pounding bass music to audiences of millions during their dinner, he’s boldly rubbed electro records upside folk joints and even played entire albums without any breaks or chatty interludes.
Adding a specialist dynamic to an accessible family-time show, Zane’s boundary-free appreciation of exciting new talent (and knowledge of the past masters) has scored him near-matchless stripes in our generation of radio DJs and helped the career of many now massive artists.
