12-13-14: Tomorrow is a major day for Savant fans as he finally unleashes his 11th artist album Zion. After his unique departure into animated pop-operatics with Protos, it’s the sound of a man cranking up his own EDM machine. Biblical badness, it’s seeped in some stern messages.
We’ll let him explain those messages in a second. But first – in a manner that befits his rampant, studio-shattering, monstrously prolific attitude – we’re happy to reveal more details on his next album, Invasion.
It’s not called Selfie, it’s not called Show Your Butt, it’s not called Put Your Hands In The Air. It’s called dark shit from the bible. Go into a dark spot, feel something, go and party a bit and go back to that dark place!
Tentatively scheduled for an early 2015 release date (we’re talking a matter of weeks between Zion and Invasion, here), it’s yet another example of the unique approach and ability we focussed on in our UKF Music Makers feature at the start of this year…
About Invasion
“Invasion is similar to other albums I’ve done straight after a big concept album. Like Overkill, which I released for free last year. Invasion is a freedom album with the emphasis on fun. It’s about the tracks, not the journey. I wanted to get back to that Vario vibe; fun and silly and computer gamey. It’s a bit more commercial sounding than other stuff, but it’s my take on commercial sounding music. I’ve had a lot of fun making it, and when I play any of the tracks live people go awesome!”
Go awesome: he’s already served up a teaser…
But first… ZION
If Invasion is the post-concept, Zion is the concept. And boy what a Babylonian concept…
“Zion has a very serious theme. The internet is like the Tower of Babel; it should be a beautiful thing but it’s turned into hating place. We’ve created this incredible place to unite and speak and share ideas and knowledge… But we’re turning it into a beast.
It’s not called Selfie, it’s not called Show Your Butt, it’s not called Put Your Hands In The Air. It’s called dark shit from the bible. Go into a dark spot, feel something, go and party a bit and go back to that dark place!
Invasion is the antidote to that. It’s a lot more fun. I had to do it. And I have to make more now. Some life changes have inspired me and I plan on making another album before the end of the year. From December 14 to January 1 that’s all I’ll be doing… No Christmas, no celebrations, just me in my studio and a whole load of pizza. If I get my way you’ll be hearing it before March next year.”
Let’s just let that sink in for a second: A new album comes out tomorrow, it will be followed by Savant – Invasion a matter of months and – quite possibly – another one! That means within a year of us visiting his Norway studio to understand how prolific Savant is, he will have written four albums.
“I’ve told you before,” he laughs. “I see myself as an athlete and I’m constantly training myself.”
Long may the sports continue: Cop Zion on Savant’s own store.
