DJ Fresh you absolute badman…
In case you missed it last night on Facebook, Dan Fresh Stein took to the internet with some of the most honest, touching and poignant words we’ve seen anyone in the industry post.
Shocking, too: in the midst of another absurdly busy year in which he’s come back with Bad Company, scored a top 5 with Sigala, delivered the Spinnin-endorsed bass house hurter Elevator with Erik Arbores and continued to commandeer a demanding DJ schedule, Fresh has also been battling thyroid cancer.
It’s going to take a fuck load more than that to stop me being in front of you on stage realising the blessing that you have given me.. Giving me the chance to entertain you and give that back to you guys. Even if I have to crawl onto stage I will be there and I will never let you down .. You can trust and rely on me to do everything in my power to do my absolute best

Thankfully he’s in remission and madly this isn’t even the first time he’s faced cancer before. Proof that no matter how public a life someone leads, you truly don’t know what battles they’re facing behind closed doors.
Huge respect to Fresh now and always… He’s represented the genre at levels few considered possible and ensured drum & bass’s influence and presence is dominant and unavoidable for the next generation. He’s also created, or co-created, some of the gulliest bangers known to junglist kind: The Nine, Signal, Planet Dust, The Gatekeeper, Ladies Of Spain, Sinobi, the list goes on.
His music has played a role in UKF’s development since day one: Talkbox was our fourth official upload on UKF Drum & Bass exactly seven years and 19 days ago. But that’s not our throwback Thursday tune. That would be Heavyweight. Because that’s exactly what DJ Fresh is.
