There are worse ways to spend a week than disappearing into the Romanian countryside with a bunch of drum & bass producers, vocalists and other generally sleep-deprived creative types. Now entering its third chapter, Echoes III will take place from 11–18 September in the Transylvanian village of Breb, Maramureș, bringing together artists from Romania and across the d&b sphere to write, collaborate and, hopefully, make a reasonable amount of bass-heavy noise.
The idea is simple enough. Give good people the space to create without the usual distractions and see where it leads. Previous editions in Viscri and Cobor produced the Echoes documentary series, following the relationships, sessions and unexpected connections that emerged when artists who might never otherwise have crossed paths were given a week to work alongside one another. This time, the line-up includes Azotic, Bogdvn, Blocksberg, Moxu, Mihaiul, Hugh Hardie, Javeon, T-Man, Tian and Satl, and potentially; you!
One emerging artist will be given the enviable opportunity to join them with their entire trip funded by Quite Lucky Records and UniCredit Bank.
It isn’t simply about making tracks. Producers, vocalists, songwriters, MCs and multidisciplinary artists are invited to apply, with the emphasis on collaboration rather than competition. The music matters, but so do the conversations, the friendships that form over a week and the possibility that the mixed-bag of people in a little known village might come up with something that couldn’t have happened any other way. Tracks written during the camp will also be considered for future release on Quite Lucky Records.
Applications for Echoes III are now open until 31st August, with the fully funded place covering accommodation, meals and transport. If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to take your music somewhere slightly more interesting than the spare bedroom, this might be it.
