Dizzee Rascal recently revealed he’s diving even deeper into the bass end with the announcement of his ninth album, We Want Bass. And as the home of bass music we just had to get in touch.
The result? An exclusive quote for UKF, where Dizzee explains how a fan chant turned into the album title, why this record naturally drifts towards the dancefloor, and why working alongside White N3rd and Big Harry made the whole process one of the most enjoyable he’s had in years.
“The album title is a chant that came from the crowd at my shows,“ Dizzee tells UKF. “It was started by the fans and I ended up taking the chant around the world. It’s dedicated to the fans at my shows.
“It’s my nature to have bass in my tracks, and as this album progressed, it became more dance-focused, as that’s where I was at the time. Overall, I was really enjoying the beats that White N3rd was presenting to me, and it was a lot of fun recording it. Big Harry also!
“I really enjoyed testing out this album, especially riding with the top down on a sunny day, as this album was made for summer.”
Due for release on September 4 via Big Dirtee Records, We Want Bass sees Dizzee spitting over house, speed garage, bassline, dubstep, rap and beyond across 15 tracks built to move people. It’s also the latest step in a run that’s seen him link up with names including Bou, Bad Boy Chiller Crew and Denon Reed as he continues exploring the bassier end of UK dance music.
